The Federal Ministry of Youth Development and the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), under the leadership of the Hon. Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande @ayowisdom_ , and the National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, have officially launched the Data Protection Training Programme for Nigerian Youths.
The Hon. Minister commended Dr Olatunji for his dedication and the successful launch of the training programme. He emphasised the Ministry’s commitment to empowering Nigerian youths, noting that this initiative is a key avenue toward achieving that goal. He stressed that the partnership between the Ministry and the NDPC made the initiative possible and will go a long way in equipping young Nigerians with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.
In his address, Dr Olatunji commended the Hon. Minister for his unwavering support and commitment to empowering young Nigerians in the digital age. He recalled the earlier engagement between the Ministry and the Commission, which led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), and noted the significant progress made in its implementation. He emphasised that the initiative aligns with the eight priority areas of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR—particularly in the areas of job creation and youth empowerment through digital literacy.
Dr Olatunji further highlighted the growing demand for DPOs in the ecosystem and stated that the era of searching for jobs after the National Youth Service Programme is fast disappearing, as opportunities continue to emerge within the digital economy—especially in data protection. He urged young Nigerians to take the training seriously, understand their data rights, and embrace the vast opportunities available in this fast-growing ecosystem.
Also present at the launch were the Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Mrs Hadiza Bala Usman; Chairman, House Committee on ICT and Cybersecurity, Hon.
