The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered a goodwill message at the launch of the sensitisation campaign on Romance Scam and Fraud, tagged, “Odogwu no dey hide face,” organised by the Nigeria Police Force National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).
Dr Olatunji commended the NPF-NCCC, under the leadership of its Director, CP Uche Ifeanyi Henry, for its proactive efforts in tackling cybercrime. He stressed that all stakeholders must support the centre to end cybercrime in Nigeria, noting that mobile scams remain a global challenge.
He explained that combating cybercrimes requires collective action, as many cyber threats originate from the compromise of personal data. According to him, safeguarding personal information is fundamental to preventing fraud and protecting individuals from falling victim to online scams.
Citing statistics on the economic losses caused by cybercrime in Nigeria, Dr Olatunji stressed the need to protect Nigerian citizens and legal residents. He reaffirmed the NDPC’s support for the NPF-NCCC’s mandate and urged organisations to prioritise data protection and privacy.
