At the Digital Nigeria Conference and Exhibition (DNICE 2025), the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) hosted a panel session themed “Safeguarding the Nigerian Child in the Digital Age: Balancing Empowerment, Privacy, and Protection.”
The session explored practical approaches to promoting children’s online safety, including managing screen time, understanding the psychosocial impact of technology, and bridging the gap between data protection laws in theory and practice. The speakers emphasised vigilance in identifying data-harvesting schemes, innovation among youth, and collaboration between parents, educators, and stakeholders. They also underscored the importance of safety by design in schools.
Through initiatives such as Adopt-a-School, Privacy Club, and the Virtual Privacy Academy, the NDPC continues to drive awareness and advocate for a safer, more responsible digital environment for Nigerian children.
The panel was moderated by Chidera Ike-Okonkwo, Government Affairs Lead, Nina Jojer. The panelists included Adaobi Nwankwo, Head of Innovation Department, Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC); Adewolu Adene, Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy, Google; Dr. Habiba Musa, Data Protection Officer, Nasarawa State University, Keffi; Dr. Aisha Salau, Cybersecurity Department, National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA); Daniel Uba, Head of Innovation, Floliz Nigeria Limited; and Raheemah Olawuyi, Internet Governance and Data Protection Enthusiast, and Founder of the first Data Privacy Club in Nigeria.
