NDPC Drives Data Protection Agenda at NCCIDE, Stresses Need to Accelerate NDP Act Compliance

The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) is actively participating in the 13th Regular Meeting of the National Council on Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy (NCCIDE), themed “Accelerating Inclusive Digital Transformation: Bridging Gaps and Fostering Sustainable Growth Through Innovation,” held in Jos, Plateau State.

The officials’ meetings (technical sessions) were held, during which memos were presented for consideration and recommendation to the Council. The Commission’s memo was presented by Barr. Alexander Onwe, an officer from the Strategic Partnership and Communications Department of the NDPC.

The memo, submitted under the Policy Group, was titled, “Accelerated Implementation of the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 – General Application and Implementation Directive 2025 (NDP Act-GAID 2025) by Data Controllers and Processors in Nigeria, Including All Ministries, Departments and Agencies, in line with the NDP Act 2023.”

Other NDPC representatives joined additional working groups, including Infrastructure, Policy, Knowledge, Innovation, as well as Entrepreneurship and Capital/Trade, where they contributed extensively, particularly on issues relating to data protection and privacy.
