The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, has been inducted into the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Alumni Hall of Fame at the 12th Global Convention of EKSU Alumni, held at the university’s main auditorium in Ado-Ekiti.
Dr Olatunji, who also delivered the convention lecture on the theme, “Beyond the Walls: Building Digital Bridges for Impact,” expressed delight at returning to his alma mater as the lecturer. He congratulated the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, His Excellency Biodun Oyebanji, and all EKSU alumni on their remarkable achievements and contributions to the university and society.
In his lecture, Dr Olatunji underscored the importance of building bridges that promote collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation in order to harness collective digital potential. He emphasised that technology serves as a powerful enabler for connecting people, ideas, and opportunities; thereby driving socio-economic growth, national development, and global digital integration.
Dr Olatunji also discussed the concept of a connected world, identifying key challenges that must be addressed, and practical strategies for progress such as policy and strategy development, human capital development, as well as funding and sustainability, among others. He reiterated that data protection and privacy are fundamental to fostering trust, accountability, and sustainability in building secure and impactful digital bridges. He spoke on the roles of the university, alumni, students, government institutions, and development partners in advancing this shared vision.
Dr Olatunji was conferred with the Hall of Fame honour by the Chancellor of EKSU, Dr Tunji Olowolafe; and the Global President of the EKSU Alumni Association, Ambassador Seyi Idowu. Other distinguished inductees included His Excellency Governor Biodun Oyebanji; the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; the Olowo of Owo Kingdom, His Imperial Majesty Oba Ajibade Ogunoye III; and the Vice-Chancellor of EKSU, Professor Joseph Ayodele, among others.
