The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, is currently attending the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain, where he is engaged in various meetings, including the Data Protection Authorities Round Table.
In alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR)’s Renewed Hope Agenda to attract Foreign Direct Investment into Nigeria, Dr Olatunji also participated in a bilateral meeting with officials of the Groupe Spécial Mobile Association (GSMA), attended select closed conference sessions, and toured exhibition stands to identify potential areas of collaboration with key industry stakeholders and solution providers.
He further leveraged the engagements to highlight Nigeria’s experience and sustained efforts in tackling mobile money scams, particularly in relation to the activities of digital lending companies operating within the country. Discussions also examined opportunities for enhanced awareness creation and capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening scam prevention across Nigeria’s mobile money ecosystem.
This forms part of the activities of the NDPC aimed at deepening the data protection and privacy ecosystem in Nigeria, while also remaining vibrant and actively engaged in global conversations on the ecosystem.
