Following the Workshop on the United States of America–Nigeria Data Protection Privacy Project (NDPC), the National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received officials from the United States on a strategic working visit to the Commission.
The team, made up of officials from the United States Department of State, the United States Department of Commerce, the United States Consulate in Nigeria, as well as the Future of Privacy Forum, was led by the Senior Data Policy Advisor at the United States Department of State, Mr Aryeh Ness, who commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its support in the organisation of the workshop. They stated that they were at the Commission to discuss and exchange ideas on next steps.
In his remarks, Dr Olatunji reiterated that cooperation and collaboration have been fundamental to the progress achieved by the Commission since its establishment, in alignment with its Strategic Roadmap and Action Plan. Highlighting some of these achievements and its influence on the Network of African Data Protection Authorities (NADPA), Dr Olatunji stated that the Commission was ready to work with the US delegation to produce results that the Nigerian and United States Governments would be proud of.
The Head of the Legal, Enforcement and Regulations Department of the Commission, Barrister Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq., presented a report on the structured approach to implementing the next steps of the workshop. Deliberations were held on the presentation, and strategies for implementation were outlined and agreed upon.
