The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) was represented by an officer from its Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department, Abubakar Bello Adamu, at a strategic benchmarking and knowledge-exchange engagement in London, United Kingdom, focused on enhancing digital governance and IT project clearance.
Organised by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) in collaboration with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), the week-long mission aimed to align Nigeria’s IT project oversight with international best practices in procurement, cybersecurity, and data privacy.
Over five days, the Nigerian delegation (comprising experts from the NDPC, NITDA, and Galaxy Backbone) engaged with leading UK institutions to study the architecture of a secure digital economy. NDPC’s participation underscores the vital role of data protection as a cornerstone of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI). By benchmarking against the UK’s G-Cloud Framework and Digital Marketplace, the Commission is helping to refine standards for how government service providers handle personal data, ensuring transparency and building public trust.
The engagement concluded with a private-sector roundtable, where UK technology firms shared lessons on delivering innovative digital solutions while maintaining strict regulatory compliance, a model the NDPC continues to champion in Nigeria’s evolving digital landscape.
