Building on its commitment to promote inclusivity through language accessibility, the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has unveiled the Igbo version of the Nigeria Data Protection Act, 2023 (NDP Act), in Enugu State.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, was represented at the event by Ms Fatima Sanni of the Research and Development Department.
In her remarks, Ms Sanni commended Meta Inc. for partnering with the Commission on the translation project and appreciated the support of the Enugu State Government and the Enugu SME Agency toward the successful unveiling. She noted that translating the NDP Act into local languages promotes inclusivity and enables Nigerians to better understand their rights as data subjects, regardless of literacy level or linguistic background.
Ms Sanni further highlighted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which underscores the administration’s commitment to digital inclusion, the protection of citizens’ data, and the growth of a data-driven economy. She also encouraged the wider dissemination of the Act across communities in the South-East to deepen understanding of data protection and strengthen the culture of privacy.
