The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of other CEOs and heads of agencies under the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy at the Digital Nigeria International Conference, 2025, hosted by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).
The conference, themed “Innovation for a Sustainable Digital Future”, had the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima (GCON), as the Special Guest of Honour, and the Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr ‘Bosun Tijani, delivered the Keynote Address.
Delivering his goodwill message, Dr Olatunji commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s economy through digital technology. He referenced the administration’s eight priority areas, all of which are being driven by digital innovation, and highlighted the President’s swift signing of the Nigeria Data Protection Bill into law just two weeks after his inauguration. He also commended NITDA, under the leadership of the Director-General/CEO, Mr Kashifu Inuwa, for bringing together industry leaders and stakeholders.
Dr Olatunji noted that Nigeria has the potential and resources to lead the global digital economy. This assertion stems from the country’s youth population, which is highly tech-savvy and entrepreneurial, providing a vast pool of digital talent. He added that the nation’s diverse economic sectors also present fertile ground for digital innovation and transformation, noting that collaboration and cooperation are essential to strengthening Nigeria’s quest for global relevance in the digital ecosystem.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr Suzuki Hideo; the Managing Director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju; the Executive Vice-Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida; the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Engr. Margaret Oguntala and other key stakeholders in the digital economy ecosystem.
