The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, received a high-level delegation from Kano State, led by the State Commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Dr Yusuf Ibrahim Koformata, at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.
Dr Koformata expressed appreciation for the warm reception extended to him and his team, noting that their visit was a follow-up to the NDPC’s training for the seven North-West states. He emphasised Kano State’s commitment to enhancing its digital economy and highlighted the unique role of data protection and privacy in achieving this goal. The delegation sought the Commission’s support and collaboration in advancing these efforts.
In response, Dr Olatunji commended the state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for demonstrating his commitment to data protection and privacy by sending a delegation of such calibre to the Commission following the regional training. He shared the background of the Commission’s establishment, and discussed the vital role the data protection ecosystem plays in global digital development. He reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to supporting the state’s initiatives and provided the delegation with insights into the fundamentals of the data protection ecosystem.
To advance this collaboration, a working group was formed to facilitate the drafting and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the NDPC and the Kano State Government.
