The National Commissioner/CEO of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC), Dr Vincent Olatunji, was represented by the Head of the Legal, Enforcement, and Regulations Department, Babatunde Bamigboye, Esq., at the grand finale of the data protection training for staff of the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), held at the NUPRC headquarters.
During the event, Barrister Bamigboye presented the Nigeria Data Protection Act (NDP Act) Audit Trust Mark and the Registration Certificate to NUPRC, as a Data Controller of Major Importance. He commended NUPRC for its proactive efforts in complying with the NDP Act and for prioritising data protection and privacy within the oil and gas sector. He also encouraged the organisation to take full advantage of the upcoming NDPC Virtual Privacy Academy and to ensure that all NUPRC’s regulated entities also comply with the provisions of the NDP Act.
Speaking on behalf of NUPRC, the Head of Services, Corporate Services Department, Mrs Sholabi Olanrewaju, commended the NDPC, under the leadership of Dr Olatunji, for its commitment to entrenching a culture of data protection across all sectors in Nigeria. She stated that NUPRC’s data protection framework aligns with global best practices and affirmed that their swift compliance with the NDP Act reflects the organisation’s dedication to fostering a resilient data processing value chain, within the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
