The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) was represented at the Stakeholder Engagement on the Draft Zamfara Digital Literacy Framework, held in Gusau, Zamfara State, to equip students from the foundational level of primary school through tertiary education with digital literacy and knowledge on how best to safely navigate the digital world.
Speaking at the event, the Governor of Zamfara State, Dr Dauda Lawal, noted that digital literacy is necessary to catch up with the pace of the rapidly evolving digital world we now live in. He noted that with exposure to the digital world, it’s important for everyone to understand the significance of data protection and privacy.
The National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who was represented at the event by an officer from the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Department of the Commission, Abdulmalik Jamoh, highlighted the importance of data protection and privacy, and why it must be embedded into our digital consciousness.
He stated that with technology comes responsibility, adding that beyond technical skills, students must be taught to use digital tools ethically and securely. He commended the Zamfara State Governor for his drive aimed at ensuring data security within his state’s borders. He added that the NDPC remains a willing partner in the transformative journey the state has begun.
