The Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital Africa Consult.
The MoU was signed to formalise a training-focused initiative aimed at embedding a culture of data protection and privacy among secondary school students across states and geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The initiative, tagged Nigeria Data Challenge, is designed to educate students on data protection and privacy, culminating in structured activities to assess their understanding on the subject matter.
In his remarks, the National Commissioner/CEO of the NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, commended Digital Africa Consult for the initiative. He noted its alignment with the Commission’s Privacy Clubs in tertiary institutions. He expressed the Commission’s commitment to the partnership, which will also support the NDPC’s mandate of fostering a data protection-conscious society.
In his response, the Chairman of Digital Africa Consult, Dr Evans Woherem, expressed gratitude to the Commission and Dr Olatunji for the collaboration. He emphasised the importance of personal data in Nigeria’s evolving digital economy and stressed the need to instil data protection awareness from an early age. He also expressed confidence that the partnership would contribute meaningfully to the growth of the data protection ecosystem in Nigeria.
