In line with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC)’s efforts to increase awareness on data privacy and protection at the state level, the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dikko Umar Radda, through the Katsina Directorate of Information Communication Technology (KATDICT), in collaboration with the NDPC, hosted a high-impact data protection workshop in Katsina State.
The National Commissioner/CEO of NDPC, Dr Vincent Olatunji, who was represented by the Head of the Enforcement Unit at the Commission, Princewill Odinaka, Esq, commended the Katsina State Government for hosting the workshop, describing it as a vital step toward strengthening the culture of data privacy and protection, and building digital trust in the region. He emphasised the urgent need to integrate data protection and privacy into Nigeria’s expanding tech ecosystem.
The capacity-building workshop is also aimed at empowering participants with employable knowledge, which aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s job creation agenda, that has created over 5,000 jobs already within the data protection and privacy ecosystem. He noted that innovation must be built on a foundation of trust, ethics, and respect for citizens’ rights in order to compete in the global marketplace.
The event brought together delegates from the seven states in the North-West geopolitical zone: Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara States.
